Statement in Support of the Nadácia Milana Šimečku
19. 08. 2024
We stand united in our unwavering support for the Nadácia Milana Šimečku, an organization that has embodied the spirit of human rights, cultural understanding, and democratic values in Slovakia for over 30 years. Named in honor of the revered philosopher and dissident Milan Šimečka, the foundation has tirelessly worked to foster inclusivity, challenge prejudice, and uphold the dignity of every individual in Slovak society.
Amidst recent unfounded criticisms and political pressures, it is more important than ever to recognize the profound impact of the Nadácia Milana Šimečku’s work. Their efforts have reached thousands across Slovakia, including students, educators, and community leaders, helping to build a more tolerant and cohesive society.
We also wish to highlight the longstanding partnership between the Nadácia Milana Šimečku and the Institut Terezínské iniciativy. This collaboration has brought to life several significant projects that educate and engage the public on issues of human rights, historical memory, and the fight against hatred. Together, these organizations have played a critical role in promoting awareness and understanding of history’s darkest chapters, ensuring that such lessons are never forgotten.
The current situation, marked by baseless allegations, threatens not only the Nadácia Milana Šimečku but also the broader values of freedom and pluralism in Slovakia. We must resist any attempts to undermine the work of those who dedicate themselves to the betterment of our society.
We call on all those who value human rights and cultural freedom to stand in solidarity with the Nadácia Milana Šimečku and its partners like the Institut Terezínské iniciativy. Let us reaffirm our collective commitment to supporting these vital organizations, ensuring they can continue their essential work free from political interference.
